Coro Ludus Tonalis

Ludus Tonalis is a chamber choir founded in 1998 whose members see music as a space for encounter, creativity and shared emotion.

Throughout its history, the choir has performed in numerous venues across Spain, as well as in the United Kingdom, Morocco and the Czech Republic. Its repertoire ranges from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary music, with a strong commitment to the performance and promotion of new compositions, particularly works in the Galician language.

Among its distinctions are Second Prize at the Binissalem Choral Competition; two First Prizes and two FECOGA Awards for the best performance of the compulsory work at the Vila de Arbo Choral Competition; Second Prize at the Villa de Avilés Choral Competition; and First Prize at the 1st Corais Competition of the Galician Federation of Choirs.

An essential part of its activity takes place outside choral competitions. Every year, the choir organises a charity concert in support of different causes and organisations, because for Ludus Tonalis, music is also a way of accompanying others, raising awareness and contributing to society.

Since 2018, it has also organised the Xogos Tonais Choral Composition Competition, an initiative aimed at promoting contemporary creation, premiering new works and providing a platform for emerging voices in choral composition.

The choir has been conducted since its foundation by Rupert Twine, a conductor and composer who has received several awards for choral composition. After all these years, Ludus Tonalis still has one thing very clear: its greatest prize is simply being allowed to sing.
